Mia Engle, Second-year Master’s Student
About me: I am originally from Doylestown Pennsylvania, a town outside of Philadelphia! I am a student in Dr Kayla I Perry’s lab in the entomology department.
Research: My research focuses on the endangered rusty patched bumble bee, using trait metrics to understand the differences in decline and resilience between the rusty patched bumble bee and their co-occurring species. We use historic museum specimen and contemporary collected specimen to get a comprehensive understanding of populations overtime.

1. If you had to move to another country, where would you choose?
I would choose to move to England in the United Kingdom, specifically London! I visited London a few years ago and absolutely loved it; the public transportation alone made it so simple to get around and see so much of the area. The shopping, food, and activities were so great there was always something to do and see. I also grew up watching lots of British Youtubers and television, so I’ve always been interested in living there.
2. What is your favorite holiday?
My favorite holiday is Christmas; my family has always had huge Christmas celebrations with 25+ family members. We eat a large 6 course meal all made by my grandma, afterwards we just talk and celebrate as one big family. Christmas day has always been some of my favorite memories growing up.
3. If you didn’t have any responsibilities, how would you spend your days?
If I did not have any responsibilities, I would spend my day doing crafts and sitting with my cats. I love many kinds of crafting like knitting, cross stitching, embroidery, using a Cricut machine (vinyl cutting machine), and of course pinning bugs and framing them. While doing this I would have a comforting show on like the Great British Bake Off and sit with my cats Squishy and Daisy.
